Donation Day (t-15)

"Giving away clothes and household items you're finished with is a great gesture but real giving comes when you give away something that you want to keep." -Joyce Meyer

Over the past few years, I've become very good at getting rid of things. I have no problem going into my closet and parting with clothes. I don't mind getting rid of things in my kitchen. I can easily part with the stuff we have in the garage. And if you ever need anyone to help you through this process, let me know. I'm great at talking you into giving up your stuff too! :-)

I'm not sure why this has become so easy for me. Maybe it's that I know I have plenty and can afford to share with those that don't. Or maybe it's that I'm trying to continue to fit our family into this small home. Or maybe I just like knowing that the stuff I'm giving up isn't getting trashed, it's going to someone else that will use it. Either way, giving donations has become a very easy and joyful task for me.

I don't think it's right to literally throw something away. If something still has a little life in it, why not let someone else enjoy that until it is completely shot?! Throwing things in the trash is terrible! Donate it!

I prefer to donate to Goodwill. I've never had any problems and I genuinely feel like I'm contributing to my community when I do. So far this year, I think I've donated over $1000 worth of clothing, household items, DVDs, and books to Goodwill. (according to their checklist for tax deductions)

No matter how much the items are worth or how much I've donated, it's awesome to know that I could be helping someone out. I really encourage you to take a few minutes, look around your home and donate something. Each day, just add it to the pile and then donate it. And like the quote says, try to give something away that you want to keep. That will really challenge you in such a great way.

Up tomorrow: Sign up for a sign language class...if you know of a place, please let me know!
